RentWorks Plus and HQ Rental Software are two of the better-known names in car rental software. Both are established, each says it has more than 1,000 operators as customers, and both are good at what they were built for. The question for a small operator is whether what they were built for matches your business.
This guide sets out what each product says about itself on its own website, who it's likely to suit, and where a smaller, phone-first tool might fit better. All facts are taken from the companies' public websites as of October 2026. Features and prices change, so check their sites before you decide.
We make RoveHQ, so we have an interest here. We've tried to describe both products fairly, using their own words and links, and to be honest about where they are the better choice.
RentWorks Plus at a glance
RentWorks Plus is the cloud version of RentWorks, made by Bluebird Auto Rental Systems. According to Bluebird's about page, the company has built car rental software since 1982, was acquired by Valsoft Corporation in 2018, and has 1,000+ customers in 70+ countries, with teams in the US, Canada and the UK.
Who it's for. The RentWorks Plus homepage lists dealership groups and loaner fleets, regional multi-location operators, independent franchise operators, airport operators, commercial and truck rental, and specialty or luxury fleets. Its demo page says "dealership loaner programs and independents from 15 cars up are our highest-priority segment".
What it's strong at. The product is built around one rental record connecting reservations, a drag-and-drop reservation planner, rental agreements, fleet status, rate rules and deposits, inspections, damage claims and repair orders. The integrations page lists ValPay and Sola for payments, Zubie for telematics, HeyCarla for AI phone answering, Self Inspection for AI damage detection, and QuickBooks Online and Xero for accounting. It also lists demand-based pricing rules, toll and fuel recovery, loyalty and multi-location reporting.
Bluebird is unusually clear about what's native and what comes from partners: card processing, telematics, AI voice, AI damage detection, e-signature and the accounting ledger depend on third parties, and the integrations page says partner products "are quoted separately".
Pricing. Not published. The pricing page says proposals are scoped to "fleet size, segment, locations, integrations" and asks you to request a demo.
Setup time. Bluebird's comparison page states a typical go-live of under 60 days, with a dedicated implementation process.
What we couldn't find. We found no mention on the RentWorks Plus site of WhatsApp, LINE or Telegram messaging, Southeast Asian payment methods such as PromptPay or QRIS, motorbike-specific features, or a list of supported languages. That doesn't mean they can't be arranged; ask during a demo.
HQ Rental Software at a glance
HQ Rental Software says on its homepage that it is trusted by 1,250+ operators in 85+ countries, and is rated 4.9 on Capterra.
Who it's for. HQ describes itself as built for car and van rental, adapting to motorbikes, boats, equipment and long-term leasing "with a few simple configurations". Its FAQ says it serves operators of all sizes, "from a small operator with 5 cars moving from Turo to direct bookings, to a large enterprise running 2,000 vehicles across 10 locations".
What it's strong at. An online booking engine you embed in your own website, digital agreements and e-signatures, a mobile app for pickups and returns with photos, fleet and KPI dashboards, multi-location control, and channel management syncing with sites such as Expedia, Kayak and Turo. The integrations page lists payment gateways including Stripe, PayPal, Braintree, Mollie, Mercado Pago and Global Payments; QuickBooks and Xero for bookkeeping; telematics from Geotab, Invers and Zubie; and several US toll systems. The FAQ says the software is available in more than 30 languages and can be hosted in the USA, the Netherlands or Singapore.
Pricing. HQ publishes prices. Its pricing page lists:
| Plan | Monthly | Vehicles | One-time onboarding fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $120 | 10 | $550 |
| Standard | $175 | 25 | $950 |
| Professional | $250 | 50 | $1,500 |
| Enterprise | Price calculator | 50+ | $1,500 |
Each plan includes one branch, with extra branches at $50 a month. Annual billing saves up to 8%. Which features are included differs by plan, so check the table on their site for the ones you need. Prices are in US dollars, so convert at the current rate to compare with your daily rental income in baht, rupiah or dong.
Trial and setup. A 7-day free trial with no credit card. The FAQ says most small operators go live "within a few days", and that HQ's team helps import vehicles, customers and reservations from spreadsheets or other systems.
What we couldn't find. HQ's integrations page doesn't list WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, PromptPay, QRIS or other Southeast Asian payment providers. Confirmation emails are built in. If you rely on chat apps and bank-transfer slips, ask HQ how they'd handle it.

What the first year might cost
Software prices are easier to judge as a share of what your vehicles earn. A worked example, using HQ's published prices:
- A shop with 12 cars needs HQ's Standard plan (up to 25 vehicles): $175 × 12 months + $950 onboarding = $3,050 in year one, then $2,100 a year after (less with annual billing).
- A shop with 8 motorbikes fits the Basic plan: $120 × 12 + $550 = $1,990 in year one.
For RentWorks Plus you'd need a quote, and partner integrations (payments, telematics, accounting, e-signature) are priced separately, so ask for a year-one total that includes them.
Then compare that with your income. For example, a motorbike rented at ฿250 a day for 20 days a month earns about ฿5,000 a month. Our pricing calculator does this sum for your own fleet, so you can see how many rental days a month the software would cost you.
Who should pick which
Choose RentWorks Plus if you run a dealership loaner programme, several branches, an airport operation or a franchise, and you have 15 or more cars. It suits you if claims recovery, repair orders, telematics, rules-based pricing and a clean handoff to QuickBooks or Xero matter more than fast self-serve setup, and if you're comfortable with a scoped proposal and an implementation project. Four decades of rental software and a named account manager are real advantages for a larger operation.
Choose HQ Rental Software if you want published pricing, a broad set of integrations, channel management with sites like Expedia and Turo, and a booking engine on your own website. It suits growing car and van rental businesses, especially those taking card payments through Stripe or PayPal, and fleets of 10 to 50 vehicles that want to start without a sales process. The 30+ languages and Singapore hosting help in Asia.
Choose RoveHQ if you're a small independent operator, roughly 1 to 30 vehicles, renting cars, motorbikes or scooters in Southeast Asia, running the business from your phone, and talking to customers on LINE, WhatsApp or Telegram. RoveHQ reads PromptPay and QRIS payment slips and matches them to bookings, produces bilingual agreements with e-signature, and records handover photos with a timestamp. It's available in 23 languages, has a free plan, and you can sign up yourself in a few minutes.
If you're still on a notebook and chat apps, our guide on when spreadsheets and chat apps stop working covers what to fix first.
Questions to ask any provider
Whichever you look at, ask the same questions so you can compare fairly:
- What will I pay in month one, and in month twelve, including setup and add-ons?
- Can I take a full booking, handover and return on my phone?
- Which payment methods do my customers actually use, and are they supported?
- Can I send reminders through the chat apps my customers use?
- Which languages are the agreement and booking page available in?
- Will you import my existing data, and is there a fee?
- Can I export all my data if I leave?
Whatever software you use, a clear agreement and good handover photos do most of the work in a dispute. Our free bilingual rental agreement and handover checklist work with any system, or none.

Questions
How much does HQ Rental Software cost?
As of October 2026, HQ's public pricing page lists Basic at $120 a month (up to 10 vehicles), Standard at $175 (25 vehicles) and Professional at $250 (50 vehicles), plus a one-time onboarding fee of $550 to $1,500. Larger fleets use a price calculator. Check their site for current prices.
How much does RentWorks Plus cost?
RentWorks Plus doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page says proposals are scoped to your fleet size, segment, locations and integrations, so you need to request a demo for a quote.
Is RentWorks Plus suitable for a small rental business?
It can be if your fleet is at the larger end of small. Its demo page says dealership loaner programmes and independents 'from 15 cars up' are its highest-priority segment. A shop with five scooters is not who it is built for.
Does HQ Rental Software work for motorbikes?
HQ says it powers car and van rental out of the box and adapts to motorbikes, boats and equipment 'with a few simple configurations'. Try it during their 7-day free trial to check it fits your workflow.
Which is best for a small fleet in Thailand or Indonesia?
It depends on size and needs. If you have 1 to 30 cars or motorbikes, take payments by bank transfer or QR, and talk to customers on LINE or WhatsApp, look for a phone-first tool with local payment support and a free plan, such as RoveHQ.
