Free UK car, van and motorbike hire agreement
Free self-drive hire agreement for UK rental businesses: DVLA check codes, PCN statement of liability, ULEZ and Dart Charge, VE103 for trips abroad, miles and pounds.
UK hire has its own paperwork. Penalty charge notices for bus lanes, parking, the London ULEZ and Congestion Charge and the Dartford Crossing all go to the registered keeper first. A hire firm can pass them to the hirer only with a copy of the hire agreement and a statement of liability signed by the hirer. This agreement includes that statement.
What the UK version covers
Licences. GB licence holders give you a DVLA check code, now valid for 21 days, so you can see categories and penalty points. Visitors may drive on their home licence for up to 12 months.
Fines. Besides the PCN statement, the police can require you to name the driver under section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988; the agreement says you will.
Abroad. A hire car leaving the UK needs your written permission and a VE103 vehicle-on-hire certificate.
Fair terms. Deposits and damage are limited to actual, evidenced loss, in line with Part 2 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. There is no 14-day cancellation right for hire on set dates (regulation 28).
Seats and limits. Child seats until 12 years or 135 cm, and the drink-drive limits for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Every EU version also follows EU consumer law: prices shown with every compulsory charge included, damage charged only at its evidenced cost and never above the excess when a damage waiver applies, no keeping the whole deposit as a penalty, and the 14-day withdrawal right not applying to car rental for set dates. Fines and renter details follow the GDPR, and the renter signs on paper or electronically, both valid under eIDAS.
