Free Italy car and scooter rental agreement (English–Italian)

Free bilingual noleggio agreement for Italy: ZTL fines months later, renter jointly liable under Article 196, winter tyres, anti-abandonment child seats, consumer's court, euro pricing.

In Italy the fine that arrives months later is usually a ZTL camera in a historic centre. Under Article 196 of the Highway Code the renter, not the rental company, shares liability with the driver, and you pass on their details so the fine is notified to them. This agreement says so in both languages.

What the Italy version covers

Language. Consumer Code Article 9 requires information for consumers at least in Italian, so Italian sits beside the English.

Licences. A B licence also covers motorbikes up to 125 cc and 11 kW in Italy; visitors from outside the EU carry an International Driving Permit or official translation.

Seasonal rules. Winter tyres or chains on signed roads from 15 November to 15 April (from 15 October in Valle d'Aosta).

Courts. A consumer living in Italy sues in their own court (Consumer Code Article 33).

Every EU version also follows EU consumer law: prices shown with every compulsory charge included, damage charged only at its evidenced cost and never above the excess when a damage waiver applies, no keeping the whole deposit as a penalty, and the 14-day withdrawal right not applying to car rental for set dates. Fines and renter details follow the GDPR, and the renter signs on paper or electronically, both valid under eIDAS.

How to use the builder

  1. Italy is preset in the form.
  2. Add your business, vehicle, prices and deposit, or leave anything blank to write in at handover.
  3. Download the Word file or the print-ready PDF. Each country version lists the public sources it was written from.

Other countries are on the main free rental agreement page. A template based on public information about local rules. It isn't legal advice: check it fits your business before you use it.
