Free Ireland car hire agreement
Free self-drive rental agreement for Irish rental businesses: CCPC damage-charge guidance, M50 tolls, Northern Ireland trips, Consumer Rights Act 2022, euro pricing.
Ireland's consumer regulator, the CCPC, is clear that a hire firm may charge for repairs only where there is clear evidence the damage happened during the rental. This agreement is built around that: a dated photo check at handover and return, written damage charges with the quote or invoice, and a second quote on request.
What the Ireland version covers
Licences. EU, EEA and UK licences are valid; other visitors can drive on their own licence for up to 12 months. Learner permits are not accepted.
Tolls and fines. The M50 is barrier-free and must be paid by 8 p.m. the next day. Penalty points go to the driver, and you give the Gardaí the renter's details when asked.
Northern Ireland. Crossing the border needs your permission and cover.
Fair terms. Wording follows the Consumer Rights Act 2022, and disputes can go to the European Car Rental Conciliation Service if you are a member, or Small Claims.
Every EU version also follows EU consumer law: prices shown with every compulsory charge included, damage charged only at its evidenced cost and never above the excess when a damage waiver applies, no keeping the whole deposit as a penalty, and the 14-day withdrawal right not applying to car rental for set dates. Fines and renter details follow the GDPR, and the renter signs on paper or electronically, both valid under eIDAS.
